Dominant Wineflies beat the Emus

Reynella has won the A Grade Men Grand Final 2022 with an epic fourteen-point win over Morphett Vale at the packed-out Flinders University Stadium.

Goals by Callan Semple (3), Bailey Marshman (2), Bradley Potter (2), Marc Borholm (1), and Nicholas Mclean (1) were enough to see off the challenge from the Emus.

Morphett Vale’s pre-game confidence, boosted by the strong form of captain Michael Smith, Liam Corrie, and former SANFL gun Anthony Biemans, was shot down early on as the club looked to end its 13-year A Grade premiership drought. However, they may feel like the perennial bridesmaid after losing their second A Grade Men Grand Final on the trot.

The Wineflies swamped Morphett Vale from the off, snapping the opening goal early, racing to an 18-1 lead in the first term to take control of the match.

Reynella continued to dominate in the second term and headed into the main break with a commanding 36-4 lead.

Whatever the Morphett Vale coach Michael Handby said at the half-time break worked, as his team responded by kicking its first goal, ending the quarter with a five-goal haul, leaving the game tied 37-37 before the final quarter.

 

The Wineflies took their game to another level in the final term, ploughing through Morphett Vale to end the game 57-43, winning their first premiership since a 2015 success.

J. H. Warren Medal winner Cameron McGree was so delighted that he took to the oval after the game, performing several cartwheels dressed only in underwear and a bow tie, much to the delight of the Reynella fans who were still at the stadium.
