It was a beaut of a day with the sun blazin’ as Flagstaff Hill went head to head with the Noarlunga Shoes in the A Grade Men Semi Final 2 2023, and blimey, this was a match more gripping than your pop’s 30-year-old pair of budgie smugglers!

As the first quarter unfolded, the Falcons showcased a brand of footy that was as mesmerising as the Southern Lights, taking a solid lead that sent the Flaggie faithful into a frenzy of cheers and perhaps, a few too many beers. The Shoes weren’t having a bar of it, though, fighting back to within one goal by the end of the first.

The Falcons and the Shoes gave it a red-hot go in the next two quarters, with both fighting tooth and nail for every possession. Both teams showcased their skills with slick handballs, booming kicks, and marks higher than the prices at the servo.

It was footy at its finest, with the kind of action that had everyone on the edge of their seats, shoutin’ and cheerin’ like there was no tomorrow!

The final quarter was more intense than a debate over whether pineapple belongs on a pizza. The Shoes put on their dancing shoes and started to boogie, pulling off moves slicker than a greased-up bog slider at the local creek.

It was heartbreak central when Noarlunga’s Luke Ross dropped a dolly, and Callum Gaspari had the crowd holding their breath as he almost got his mitts on a mark, but sadly it wasn’t to be. The crowd let out a groan that could be heard all the way in the NT!

Noarlunga’s Nicholas Mott tied the score at 60-60, makin’ everyone sit up, only for Flagstaff Hill to come out swinging harder than a bloke at a servo pie warmer who’s just been told they’re out of beef and curry.

The game was all but over with Flagstaff Hill kicking the final goal that sealed the game. Talk about a ripper shot, right off the carpet, it was the kind of goal that’ll be talked about for years, probably even at random BBQs and family dinners!

Noarlunga continued to give it a crack till the very end, but despite their gutsy comeback in the last quarter, they couldn’t snag the win, ending up six feet under with a scoreline of 60-72.

Fair dinkum, it was a ripper game that’ll be yarned about for years to come!

The air was thick with excitement for the A Grade Men Semi Final 1 2023. The ground echoed with the thunderous roars of the fans and every kick, every goal was a heart-stopping moment of pure Southern Football League magic.

As the first quarter rolled on, the tension ramped up higher than a hill’s hoist in a backyard, with both teams showing the kind of spirit and determination that defines Southern Football League footy.

When the siren blared to end the first quarter, every bloke, sheila, and little nipper in the crowd knew they were witnessing something special, a game that was shaping up to be a true classic in the heart of footy land.

Reynella dominated possession as the second quarter kicked off, charging into their forward 50 like bulls at a gate. But mates, it was here that the script took a bit of a twist, turning into a tale of the one that got away… well, more like several that got away!

You could feel it in the air, the crowd holding their breath as the Reynella champs lined up, one after the other, aiming to split the big sticks and hear that sweet sound of the umpire’s whistle signalling a goal. But alas, it was like there was a force field around the goals, a bloomin’ magnetic field pushing the ball anywhere but between the posts.

The third quarter kicked off with the crowd more electrified than a bloke finding a tenner in an old pair of jeans. The air was thick with anticipation, and you could almost taste the determination as the players charged onto the field.

The oval was a battlefield, a place of heroic charges and desperate stands, where every mark was contested, and every kick could change the fate of the game. It was a tug of war, a test of wills where every player gave 110%.

As the quarter drew to a close, it was clear that this was anyone’s game. The scoreline was tighter than a new pair of jeans after Christmas dinner, setting the stage for a final quarter that promised to be more thrilling than a downhill trolley race!

As the players took to the field for the final quarter, you could cut the tension with a knife – it was thicker than the crust on a pie at the footy! The stands were a sea of eager faces, every eye glued to the field, hearts pounding louder than the bass at a bush doof.

Morphett Vale tried to hold their ground, but Reynella was like a force of nature, a storm that couldn’t be contained. It was a blitz, mates, a full-on assault that had the Morphett Vale defenders running in circles, more confused than a chook with a brain freeze.

The Wineflies put on a footy display with more skill than a kangaroo with a yo-yo, taking home the big W with a smashing score of 101-40.

The Emus had their moments, no doubt, but at the end, they were more out of place than a salad at a bogan BBQ. Still, good on ya, mates, for giving it a burl!
